Open Pottery Studio: create at your own pace, without constraints
Do you already have some experience with wheel-throwing or hand-building and want to work at your own pace? Do you feel like getting your hands into clay, but without following a class? Do you enjoy doing things your own way—experimenting, trying, failing, starting again? Slow Potter offers open pottery studio sessions, giving you access to its 11th arrondissement studio and equipment every day of the week. Don’t hesitate to contact us if your needs don’t exactly match the packages offered.
The freedom to work, without schedule or pressure
An open pottery studio is, above all, the freedom to do what you want, in your own way. No strict instructions. No model to reproduce. Just a space and equipment at your disposal so you can give free rein to your creativity. The only requirement is that you already have sufficient knowledge to practice pottery independently.
Our pottery studio thus works like a shared studio, where everyone progresses at their own pace.
A pottery studio full of charm in the heart of vibrant Paris
Joining Slow Potter’s open pottery sessions also means meeting other artists, passionate retirees, couples looking for a shared activity, and creative individuals. It’s taking part in an ecosystem where clay becomes a pretext for connection.
The studio is located in the 11th arrondissement, a lively and creative neighborhood, away from the bustle yet close to everything. It is a warm place at the back of a flowered courtyard, with beautiful oak furniture, shelves full of drying pieces, stone walls, and above all lots of light. And that special silence that only shared concentration can produce.
A free activity, but supervised for everyone’s comfort
Autonomy does not mean being left alone. The open pottery studio is supervised by a supportive team, available if needed.
Before starting, you’ll be invited to the studio for a quick introduction to the tools available to you—potter’s wheel, modeling table, apron, shaping tools. You’ll be shown where the storage spaces are and the in-house glazes you can use.
Firing is handled by the Slow Potter team and is included in the Open Studio packages. However, an extra fee will be charged for large pieces—such as large plates—that take up a lot of space in the kiln.
Clay, however, is sold separately at the studio.
The equipment is regularly maintained. The usage rules are simple and displayed: respect the shared space, clean tools, manage your pieces. This flexible framework allows everyone to feel comfortable while maintaining the collective spirit of the place.
And if you feel that a more guided framework would suit you better, why not try a private or couple’s wheel-throwing session? The two options then become complementary.
